A low pressure system moving up the atlantic coast is forecast to deepen as it approaches atlantic Canada late tonight. The heaviest periods of rain are expected to occur overnight and into Thursday morning..And in Cape Breton by Thursday afternoon. By the time the rain tapers off Thursday evening total amounts of 50 to 60 millimetres are expected for mainland Nova Scotia..However amounts up to 70 millimetres are possible for southern portions of the atlantic coast and Cape Breton.

Strong southeast winds developing ahead of the low Thursday are expected to gust near 110 km/h over the Cape Breton Highlands early Thursday afternoon.
