Monday Morning Storm Update


Snow began late last evening and changed to ice pellets overnight. It all changed to rain here in the past half hour. Roads are a mess and schools through out the province have been closed for the day.

We enjoyed a pleasant mid winters weekend here, with temperatures below normal under sunny skies for the most part until this afternoon when clouds from the approaching system moved in.

Friday Update


Sunny and cool today, not a cloud in the sky for the most part. Looks like a sunny weekend cold on Saturday however but temperatures moderating on Sunday. First part of next week still looks mild and wet as I mentioned yesterday.

A mix of sun and cloud here today with seasonable temperatures. After we get through the cold this weekend it will warm up with a cut off low floating off the coast for a few days. Along with the milder temperatures we can also expect some showers off and on.

Well that rain we had last night froze this morning just in time for every one's commute to work. A number of accidents were reported through the area. Sunny this afternoon with temperatures just above freezing. Talk about freezing, we are going to be in the deep freeze for the next few days.

Cold and clear this morning, but it warmed up nicely through the day, in fact we are on the plus side of zero now. We had some light snow this afternoon and evening but it has turned to showers, but will turn back to flurries overnight as the temperature falls back.

For my location anyway. We never climbed out of the minus double digits today, with wind chills approaching -30*C. After a cold night will moderate tomorrow with a system moving in from the west. Then cold again towards the end of the week.

Cleared off here late this afternoon and then the temperature plummeted into the - double digits before settling back around -9*C. Cold tonight and tomorrow, -15*C tonight and -12*C for tomorrow.

Sunday Afternoon Update

woke up this morning with snow and it snowed until just recently. Looks like we received 10 cm, system came closer to coast than EC expected. I should have stayed with my original forecast from earlier on.

Sunny day here today with light nw winds which backed to the sw this afternoon as a system skirts pass the coast. Radar shows light snow moving into the province at this time, we can expect 2 - 5 cm.

Here in the capital city of Nova Scotia we are currently under a wind warning with gusts of up to 100 km. It has seemed to have calmed down here the last half hour compared to what it was like earlier. Wet snow began near noon and turned to rain after about 1 cm. Rain was heavy for a good part of the afternoon and continues at posting.

Cloudy this morning with clearing late this afternoon. Cool today. Did some work up in St Croix near Windsor today. A fair amount of snow in the woods. Nearly to my knees. GLB has backed off for snow on Sunday, pushing the storm further east. I am going to stick with my forecast for now and wait and see what next few runs are like. GFS and Euro are still looking like snow.

Evening Storm Center Update

Steady light snow since our last report around 2 cm, just enough to make the roads slippery. EC is calling for 10 - 15 cm before it ends in the morning. Main problem will be the wind which will be in the range of 50 - 70 km/hr causing blowing and drifting snow along with reduced visibility in open areas. Not snowing very hard as I can see the lights at the Fairview Cove container pier.

Will be back late this evening with an update or sooner if conditions dictate.

Well pretty muh looks like a non event here in Halifax. Just light snow here now with a dusting on the ground. Radar returns do not look very promising.

Lunchtime Storm Center Update

Well not much happening here. A glance at the highway web cams shows some light snow in the sw end of the province. Earlier we had a few snow flakes and as I type this some ice pellets have begun to fall.

A look at the radar shows a split in the precipitation field, going south and north of Halifax.

Special Storm Center Update


Latest check on storm shows light snow in Yamouth with temperatures on the south shore ranging from 0 - -2*C. Models show snowfall accumulations of 15 - 20 cm, with lesser amounts for areas with ice pellets mixing in.
